Washington, D.C. — Today, Congressional leaders announced a “Green New Deal” resolution. The climate crisis is already impacting people around the world, with young people and marginalized communities most at risk. In the face of inaction and denial, young people are taking steps to find solutions, in the form of Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s introduction of a Green New Deal resolution, and America’s youth holding elected leaders accountable as part of the Get The Facts Out campaign.

Brent J. Cohen, executive director of Generation Progress, released the following statement:

“Young people are undoubtedly the leaders of the climate change movement. Whether on Capitol Hill, the streets of America, or social media, young people are demanding immediate action,” Cohen said. “The Green New Deal is a bold and important solution to tackle one of the biggest challenges that our generation is facing. Young people deserve a planet where the environment is protected, where the greed of the fossil fuel industry isn’t greater than human lives, and where elected leaders heed the calls of those most at risk. I applaud Sen. Ed Markey and Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s leadership on this issue, and look forward to the important policy conversations needed to address the climate crisis.”
