PHOTOS: Occupiers Celebrate Not Being Evicted From New York’s Zuccotti Park
Just hours before an expected showdown between New York City police and the hundreds of Occupy Wall Street protestors camped out in Zuccotti Park, the company that owns the park decided to postpone the "cleaning process" that would have evicted the protestors, many of whom have been there nearly a month, and likely prevented a long-term occupation.
The news of the delay—which Mayor Michael Bloomberg said was made by the company and not him—delighted the occupiers, who had said they would fight to remain in the park.
Former Campus Progress intern Julie Turkewitz was on the scene when news of the delay arrived and shot the following photos:
