Today, the Department of Education denied the Minnesota School of Business and Globe University, both for-profit colleges, access to federal student aid dollars. Maggie Thompson, Executive Director of Generation Progress, issued the following statement in response:
“We applaud the Department of Education’s decision to deny two for-profit colleges, both proven to have committed fraud in a court of law, Title IV program funds. This is an encouraging step forward in ensuring that federal dollars do not continue to flow to institutions that mislead and defraud students out of higher educations, while guaranteeing taxpayer dollars are spent responsibly.
We hope that the Department will take this opportunity to offer the thousands of students wronged by both the Minnesota School of Business and Globe University full, automatic, and class-wide loan discharges. The Department’s priority now must be to make these students whole again, and the best way to do that is canceling the debts they owe to fraudulent institutions.”
