Advocacy Day Activities
Media and Messaging Training
This workshop is designed to help you get your campaigns, events, and other projects covered in the media. It will cover all of the basics — creating successful messaging, writing letters to the editor, getting covered in the blogosphere, and more!
Campaign Planning Training
During this session you will learn the basics of planning a campaign such as, power mapping, creating a timeline, setting goals, and creating a successful strategy to win.
Lobbying 101 Training
This training session will teach you the most effective ways to get concrete solutions from our government. It will cover grassroots lobbying tactics and how to talk with decision makers effectively about the issues you are fighting for.
Immigration Issue Briefing
The issue briefing will give you an overview of immigration reform, an update on the status of the legislation in Congress, and most importantly what immigration reform means for young people. The DREAM Act, a bill that will create pathways to citizenship for undocumented young adults, will be discussed in preparation for the Senate lobby meetings.
Senate Lobby Meetings
Advocacy Day attendees will be coming to D.C. from all over the country, so it will be a great opportunity for attendees to meet with their Senate offices on Capitol Hill and put their lobbying skills to work. Campus Progress will schedule meetings between the hours of 2:00 pm – 6:00 pm and attendees should have the chance to attend meetings with both senate offices from their state with a group of other CP attendees from that state. The group will discuss the issue of immigration reform, specifically the DREAM Act, as an example issue to practice lobbying skills and advocate for something that is urgent and timely for this country.
