Sunny Frothingham is a Senior Policy Advocate for Generation Progress. Prior to joining American Progress, Frothingham worked as an organizer with the Washington Alliance for Gun Responsibility in Seattle, Washington, where she advocated for Initiative 594, the successful ballot initiative for background checks on all gun sales. She also worked previously with Everytown for Gun Safety in Portland, Oregon.
Frothingham grew up in North Carolina and attended Duke University, where she majored in public policy and women’s studies and minored in political science. She advocated for trans-inclusive policy in student housing and the university student health insurance plan, and graduated with high distinction for her thesis on gender-neutral housing in higher education. In addition to her advocacy work, Frothingham served as a publication intern with Hollaback! and a research intern with American Progress’s LGBT Research and Communications Project.
