Danielle Root is the Voting Rights Manager for the Democracy and Government team at American Progress. As a graduate student, Root’s work focused on civil rights and criminal justice reform. She has completed internships with the Obama administration in the Office of National Drug Control Policy and has interned at the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights, the U.S. Senate, and various nonprofits concerned with voting rights and election law, including campaign finance reform. Root also worked briefly at the Scottish Parliament for a member of the Scottish Labour Party while attending classes at the University of Edinburgh
Root holds a J.D. from the George Washington University Law School, where she received the Presidential Volunteer Service Award for her commitment to public service. She also holds a bachelor’s degree in political science and anthropology from the University of Minnesota.
